Council for New England is established in London.

November 3, 1620

Created by King James, it is a reorganization of the Virginia Company (est. 1606) and is granted the right to establish colonies and to grant patents to other groups. The council subsequently becomes inactive, but not before granting its members the right to various territory in North America, which complicates the charters granted to other groups.
